Exploring the Multi-Mode Structure of Atom-Generated Squeezed Light
Squeezed states of light, i.e., quantum states exhibiting reduced noise statistics, may be used to greatly enhance the sensitivity of light-based measurements. We study a squeezed vacuum field generated in hot Rb vapor via the polarization self-rotation e↵ect. By propagating a strong pump beam through an atomic vapor cell, we were able to achieve a noise suppression of 2.7 dB below shot noise. ...
متن کاملSpatial multimode structure of atom-generated squeezed light
We investigated the spatial distribution of quantum fluctuations in a squeezed vacuum field, generated via polarization self-rotation (PSR) interaction of an ensemble of Rb atoms and a strong near-resonant linearly polarized laser field. We found that the noise suppression is greatly effected by the transverse profile of a spatial mask, placed in both the squeezed field and the local oscillator...
متن کاملOptically adjustable light filaments generated by a compact laser convertor.
In the paper, the geometrical parameters and energetics of the extremely narrow pseudo-nondiffracting beams with the spot size of several micrometers are examined. The main attention is focused on design, realization and testing of the set-up enabling conversion of the laser diode beam or the fiber mode to the narrow Bessel-Gauss beam whose spot can be continuously relocated across the plane pe...
متن کاملSignal-to-noise ratio in squeezed-light laser radar.
The formalism for computing the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) for laser radar is reviewed and applied to the tasks of target detection, direction finding, and phase-change estimation with squeezed light. The SNR for heterodyne detection of coherent light using a squeezed local oscillator is lower than that obtained using a coherent local oscillator. This is true for target detection, for phase es...
